GCCF Premier * Klatringkatt Dagwood

67 14a - Orange eyed White

17 June 1995 - 16 October 2004

Premier * Klatringkatt Dagwood was an Orange eyed White male neuter. He was born on June 17th 1995 to Elfentanz Sonja (67 31t) and Kyrrekatt Kimberley Hvit (67 14a)

Dag was one of a ltter of five. This was our very first Forest Cat litter.

I had decided that I wanted to keep a girl from my first litter of kittens, but after having sexed the whole litter as boys, decided on keeping Dag anyway. (It was not until the litter was going on for 7 weeks old, that I made the discovery that Mani was actually a girl. By this stage it was too late, I had fallen in love with and bonded to Dag, so he had to stay and so did his sister, who was promptly renamed Madame Mani.

Dag made his Show debut at the North West Cat Club Show in September 1995 at the age of 15 weeks, but he did not do very well really. I continued to show him as a kitten, but he never really seemed to do very well. As there were no Forest Cats on the bench in the North, I had decided to continue showing him anyway. Thankfully things changed as he matured, and he started to come into his own. At his first adult show (23 March 1996) he was awarded an IC (Forests Cats were still at Intermediate status), along with the BoB. At his next two shows he was also awarded the IC with BoB. His 3rd IC made Dag the 20th NFC to gain 3 IC's. Dag was by now just short of 12 months old, so he was neutered.

Although neutering is a straightforward operation these days, on a white cat it can be quite frightening to see them when they come back from the vets, with bloodstained fur, not much, but enough to make you feel guilty. (Daft or what ?) Anyway, needless to say Dag recovered with no problems and became even more of a softy.

As I tended to only attend "local" shows, I had two definite times of year when I showed very regularly - February is usually Coventry & Leicester, March has the Lancashire and Preston & Blackpool, (but sometimes the P & B'pool is held in April), May has Midland Counties and June has the Merseyside. I then usually had a break until September when I usually attended the North West, October has the Cumberland and November has the Cheshire and the Supreme. Then its a break until the following February, when it all starts again. I sometimes compete at other shows, but this is very occassionally.

Dag therefore re-appeared on the show bench in September 1996, now competing as a neuter, and continued with his now successful show career. He was awarded the IC with BoB at this show (North West), had the certificate withheld at the show after that (Cumberland- the only time ever - so far), but then was awarded the IC at the Cheshire. Dag also competed at the Supreme and came 3rd out of a class of 9, (He was actually the 2nd youngest cat in the class, the winner being 13 months older than him, and the 2nd placed cat 12 months older than him). Needless to say I was very pleased. Due to Dags successes in1996 he was awarded the "Kyrrekatt Salver" for the best White Neuter by the Norwegian Forest Cat Club at its AGM in 1997. He was also 3rd overall best NFC.

In 1997 he was awarded the IC with BoB at both the Coventry and Leicester and Preston and Blackpool Shows.

June 1997 saw the NFC move upto Championship status with the GCCF, so as the next Show on my agenda was the Merseyside, Dag got to compete for one of the first Championship status certificates that would ever be awarded to a NFC. When I returned to his pen after lunch, I was delighted to find that Dag had been awarded the Premier Certificate and the BoB, I was on cloud nine. (He had actually beaten the 1996 Supreme Provisional Exhibit, Skogens Gamla Upsala, what an achievement !). (Sorry Kate, but it did actually mean an awful lot to me).

Unfortunately, I now had to wait until September to see if Dag could get any more PC's.

So Summer came and went, and in mid September I went to the Northern Counties and came home with another PC. (The BoB went to a close relative of Dag's, * Klatringkatt Matilda, who also got her first PC). At the end of September I attended the North West Show and Dag was awarded the PC and the BoB, and so became a Premier. He was actually the first NFC to gain a title in his first 3 shows. I then attended the Cumberland and Cheshire shows, and Dag came home with PC's and BoB's once again.

So Dag now had 5 PC's, 4 with BoB. At 1998's AGM when the trophy results were announced, Dag once again had won the "Kyrrekatt Salver" for Best White Neuter, he was 4th best overall NFC, 2nd overall best neuter (only having been beaten by 1 point) and he also won the "Klatringkatt Trophy" for the male neuter to have won the most PC"s. Dagwood then went into retirement.

In the meantime Dag still gives lots of pleasure at home, tolerates any kittens that we have and generally likes being a big softy whenever he gets the opportunity.

October 2002: Dagwood is diagnosed as having Chronic Renal Failure. See Dagwood's Story.

October 2004: Dagwood loses his battle against CRF. Rest well my special boy.
